Message – ANCIPS 2012

Welcome to the 64th Annual National Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society from 19th – 22nd January 2012 at Le Meridien Convention Centre.

It’s been over 12 years since Kochi played host to ANCIPS. Looking back much has changed in the world of psychiatry . ANCIPS  2000 had the theme “Brain and Behavior – The Changing Horizons”, and  now the horizons have indeed been changed. Psychiatry has evolved in scope and depth, to accommodate the revolutionary findings made possible through advanced research and experimentation in neurosciences, molecular biology and genetics.

This year ANCIPS Kochi takes a giant leap with its theme “Psychiatry – Mysteries to Molecules”, a theme that demonstrates how far psychiatry has evolved as a science of behavior focused on the mechanisms of brain, from the psychiatry of decades ago, clouded in mysteries, myths and superstitions. Many of us have witnessed this exciting transition that main streamed psychiatry into the contemporary health care scenario. The theme session will show case the triumphant journey of psychiatry from mysteries to molecules that has re-designed mental health care.

The city of Kochi too has also changed in the past twelve years. It is no more a small city, but an emerging metro and a favoured conference destination. The shopaholics have much to rejoice with malls and multi-storey specialized stores for anything and everything.

The ever so vibrant coastal backwaters, the wonderful house boat trips along, the cool ocean breeze, the quaint little streets of Fort Kochi lined with the traditional colonial architecture, the serene beauty of nearby hill stations, the centers of pilgrimage that promises peace and calm are all major attractions.

Be assured that ANCIPS-2012 shall provide intellectual space for all:  from the student to the expert, the lab based researcher to the caring clinician, the avid academician to the community care professional, from the biological to the social psychiatrist, the pure pharmaco-therapist to the practicing psychotherapist, and to everyone attending with a passion to t learn.

The words of appreciation the delegates who attended ANCIPS 2000, at Kochi are still fresh in our minds. These words are our inspiration. However, over the 12 years ANCIPS has transformed into an even greater event and we are aware of the great responsibility we shoulder. We assure you that we will do our best.

Keralam Calling . . .
